A Safe Home is Essential to Healing

For individuals and families escaping abuse, a safe home is critical to the healing process. After leaving an abusive environment, finding affordable and stable housing is often one of the biggest barriers to creating a life free from abuse.
CAPSA’s Transitional Housing Program provides survivors and their families with housing support. CAPSA caseworkers work closely with survivors to identify housing that best fits their individual needs. This includes working with local landlords, property owners, and community partners, as well as connecting survivors with homes dedicated to CAPSA’s housing program.
The program combines housing assistance with advocacy, education, and personalized case management, helping survivors build financial stability and move toward lasting independence.

CAPSA’s Transitional Housing Program

CAPSA created its housing initiative to meet a vital community need. Survivors needed safe and affordable homes where they could rebuild their lives. Since 2007, CAPSA has developed and operated properties dedicated to survivor housing, including Independence Place, the Hansen Fourplex, and Independence Way.
To strengthen long-term sustainability and provide residents with professional property management, CAPSA created Summit Reach LLC. Summit Reach is a subsidiary organization fully owned by CAPSA. It now manages these homes and serves as the direct point of contact for residents.
Through this structure:
  • Tenants lease their homes and pay rent through Summit Reach LLC.
  • CAPSA continues to guide the overall housing program and mission focus.
  • Survivors experience a clear and professional relationship with a property management company dedicated to their success.
This partnership allows CAPSA to continue expanding safe housing opportunities while ensuring quality management and consistent support for every resident household.

Independence Place

Completed in 2015, this nine-home neighborhood was the first of its kind in Utah. It was built and operated by a domestic violence nonprofit to provide long-term housing stability for survivors. Families can stay for up to two years while working toward self-sufficiency.

Hansen Fourplex

The Dell Loy Hansen Family Foundation donated this fourplex in Logan. It was renovated in 2020 with support from the Real Salt Lake Foundation. The property provides additional housing options for families rebuilding their lives.

Independence Way

In 2019, CAPSA purchased an unfinished development, which includes an existing triplex and five building lots. CAPSA began construction of the five homes in the spring of 2020 and the neighborhood opened May 2021. This neighborhood is called Independence Way and will be CAPSA’s second neighborhood.
