CAPSA can help

CAPSA is the local expert on safely escaping and starting a new life after domestic violence, picking up the pieces after rape, and healing from associated trauma from both. When someone reaches out to CAPSA, they can expect to speak to an expert who believes, does not judge, and will not disclose what is shared.

The individual is in control during the whole process. They determine the direction they want to take and CAPSA then helps them safely and successfully reach their goals.

Helping a Friend or Family Member

  • Don’t be afraid to bring up the subject

Ask your friend or family where she/he will feel comfortable talking, keeping in mind privacy and safe locations.

  • Acknowledge their situation

Let this person know it is not his/her fault. The responsibility lies with the person who has hurt them. Let them know that it is okay to feel hurt, sad, humiliated, etc. Give them a chance to vent their feelings.

  • Validate their experience

Let your friend know that you are concerned for their physical and emotional safety and if they have children, that you are concerned for their children as well.

  • Let them know there is help available

Encourage him/her to call CAPSA to discuss a safety plan and learn about community resources. Call CAPSA at (435) 753-2500

  • Respect their choice

Victims of domestic violence may return to the abusive relationship many times. Do not abandon him/her, (although it may be discouraging).

Never let your friend believe that he/she has lost their chance to come to you for help again, if needed.

KNOW Campaign

The KNOW Campaign is designed to empower survivors of sexual abuse, rape, and domestic violence while bringing awareness to the breadth of services CAPSA offers.

Victims of sexual abuse, rape, and domestic violence often feel shame and isolation. These feelings mean many suffer alone and do not receive help.  This campaign is designed to show these individuals they are not alone, help is available, and there is a future where they will be able to again KNOW PEACE.
