The CAPSA Bridge of Hope Award: What It Is & How to Nominate for Our 2026 Event
This April, We’re Honoring Those Who Build Bridges for Survivors.
Every survivor’s journey toward healing is unique, but no one should have to walk it alone. At CAPSA, we believe that the people who show up, who advocate, who build pathways where none existed before, are the ones who change everything. That’s why we created the Bridge of Hope Award. If you know someone that is deserving of this recognition, nominate them today.
What Is the Bridge of Hope Award?
The Bridge of Hope Award is one of CAPSA’s most meaningful recognitions. It is presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to bridging gaps in resources, awareness, and support for survivors of sexual assault.
This award isn’t just about big moments or sweeping gestures. It’s about the quiet, persistent work of people who see a need and refuse to look away. It honors those who actively foster hope, create meaningful change, and build pathways toward healing and empowerment for survivors.
What Does It Mean to Be a Bridge?
A bridge connects what is to what could be. For survivors of sexual assault, that gap can feel impossibly wide. It’s the distance between trauma and healing, between silence and support, between isolation and community.
The recipients of this award are the people who span that distance. They embody compassion, advocacy, and innovation. They make a lasting impact not just on the individuals they serve, but on the wider community that benefits from their work. They see the value in every single person and find meaningful ways to show each individual that they matter.
Whether through direct service, public awareness efforts, policy change, or simply showing up with unwavering compassion, Bridge of Hope recipients prove that one person’s dedication can transform the world for another.
Organizations like RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and the National Domestic Violence Hotline remind us just how large the need is and how critical it is that communities have people willing to show up for survivors. The individuals CAPSA honors through this award are part of that same vital movement, making that mission real and personal right here at home.
Who Can Be Nominated?
We believe that impact comes in all shapes and sizes. This award is open to any individual in our community who is championing survivors — a volunteer, an educator, a healthcare provider, a neighbor, an advocate, a friend. There is no minimum threshold for what “counts.” Changing even one person’s life is still changing the world.
Not sure what championing survivors can look like? At CAPSA, we’ve seen it take many forms:
- Helping someone access our services or request help for the first time
- Volunteering time and energy through our get involved programs
- Showing up to and sharing our upcoming events to build community awareness
- Supporting survivors financially through donations that keep our programs running
- Simply being a consistent, compassionate presence for someone who needed one
Anyone doing this kind of work in any capacity is a candidate for this award.
Why Recognition Matters
Survivors of sexual assault often face enormous barriers: disbelief, stigma, and a lack of resources among them. The people who work to tear down those barriers don’t always get the recognition they deserve. This award is our way of changing that.
At CAPSA, we’re proud to have served our community for over 50 years as a nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. Our mission and history are rooted in the belief that every person deserves safety, dignity, and hope, and our impact reports show what’s possible when a community rallies around that belief.
Nationally, resources like RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656-HOPE) and the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE) exist because people have fought hard to create systems of support for survivors. Bridge of Hope recipients are that same spirit, rooted right here at home.
How to Nominate
You can nominate someone for the Bridge of Hope Award here. Nominations will close on Friday, March 27th.
Think about the people in your life who are doing this important work — often quietly, often without recognition. Now is your chance to change that.
Think broadly. Think boldly. Then submit your nomination today and help us celebrate the individuals who make hope possible.
Want to do even more? Get involved, attend an upcoming event, or make a donation to support survivors in our community year-round.
