VOLUNTEER TRAINING

At CAPSA, we understand that the foundation of our impactful work in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse is our dedicated volunteers. Each volunteer brings a unique set of skills and a compassionate heart to our mission, and through our comprehensive training program, we ensure you are fully prepared to make a significant difference.

Our volunteer training is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and sensitivity needed to offer effective support to women, men, and children who are starting anew after escaping abuse. Whether you aim to work directly with our clients, assist in our offices, or engage in community outreach, our training program provides all the necessary tools to ensure your experience is both impactful and rewarding.

Below is online training for many of the topics covered in our in-person training. To access these training modules, registration is required. Suicide Intervention

In this course, we will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals experiencing suicidal ideation. By the end of this training, you will not only gain a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding suicide but also develop practical strategies to offer compassionate support and save lives.

Domestic Violence 101

This online course provides a comprehensive exploration of domestic violence, offering participants a deep understanding of the various aspects, causes, and consequences of this pervasive social issue. Participants will gain valuable insights into the dynamics of abusive relationships, and the impact it has on survivors.

Understanding Sexual Assault

In this course, we delve into the crucial aspects surrounding sexual assault. From defining the issue and exploring statistics to debunking myths and facts, we cover topics such as drug-facilitated rape, mandatory reporting laws, identifying warning signs for survivors of all ages, and providing tools to become effective advocates.

Impacts of Sexual Assault on Mental Health

This course delves into the complex repercussions that survivors of sexual assault may face in terms of their mental well-being. In addressing this sensitive topic, we explore the psychological aftermath of such traumatic experiences, examining the various ways in which survivors may be affected emotionally, mentally, and socially.

Encouraging Resilience in Children

This course is designed to equip advocates with the knowledge and skills needed to foster resilience in children. Participants will explore the foundations of resilience, understand its significance in a child’s development, and learn practical strategies for creating supportive trauma informed environments.

Confidentiality & Mandatory Reporting

Throughout this course, we explore the delicate balance between protecting individuals’ privacy and fulfilling our legal and ethical obligations to report specific situations.

Crisis Theory and Principles

This course provides an exploration of crisis theory, an understanding of empowerment principles, and the ability to apply strength-based approaches in real-world crisis situations.

Legal Protection from Abuse

This course is designed to equip participants with a solid understanding of protective orders and the court advocacy process. Participants will delve into the various types of protective orders, explore eligibility criteria, and gain insights into the legal processes involved.

Trauma Informed Services

This course is designed to empower participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to implement trauma-informed approaches effectively. Rooted in SAMHSA’s foundational guidance, the course explores trauma’s profound impact, the core principles of trauma-informed care, and practical strategies for creating safe, compassionate, and healing environments. By the course’s end, participants will be well-prepared to make a meaningful difference in the lives of trauma survivors and contribute to the development of trauma-informed communities, fostering lasting healing and empowerment.  

Crisis Intervention

This course focuses on the critical aspects of crisis intervention and effective communication techniques. Participants will gain a deep understanding of crisis definition, recognition, and its impact on individuals.
